Masataka Taketsuru is often referred to as the 'Father of Japanese Whisky'. Having been an apprentice in Scotland at the Longmorn and Hazelburn distilleries; Masataka returned to Japan and was tasked with helping build the Suntory Yamazaki Distillery. In 1936 Yoichi Disttillery began production, and 4 years later in 1940 the first 'Nikka'Whisky was launched. Now, Japanese Whisky is in such demand, that distilleries are struggling to supply enough Whisky to meet that demand.
