Tamdhu has been under the radar for a while but in recent years it seems the secret is out, Tamdhu make superb sherry casks whisky on a par with some of Scotland's finest. Drawn from 100% Oloroso Sherry casks, this is sherried whiskymaking at its finest. First-fill European oak leads the charge with rich spiced fruitcake, toffee and milk chocolate, balanced sublimely against caramelised vanilla, raspberry jubes and a buttery nuttiness from the American oak Oloroso, with a small parcel of refill casks providing backbone and depth. After tasting the batch at a range of strengths, we landed on 50.7% ABV as the perfect ABV to express this single-vintage dram’s full fruity complexity, before bottling it with all natural colour and non-chill filtration.
